We are SC INBRE: College of Charleston

Meet Madison Meeks, a senior biochemistry/chemistry major at College of Charleston, working with SC INBRE Developmental Research Project Program recipient Dr. Jennifer Fox.

Said Meeks, “My lab partner Alyssa Craft and I are working with Dr. Jennifer Fox at the College of Charleston on two projects related to the assembly of Complex IV of the electron transport chain. We hope to elucidate this complicated process and identify the roles of assembly factor proteins in building Complex IV because stalled or incorrect assembly leads to mitochondrial disease.”

Madison plans to become a physician. SC INBRE is helping her accomplish this goal by providing funding for her research. “I am also excited to present my results at the upcoming SC INBRE Science Symposium.”

When not in the lab or classroom, her hobbies include reading, crotcheting, doing word searches, and watching comedy shows.
