We are SC INBRE: Benedict College
Meet Dr. Samir Raychoudhury, SC INBRE Institutional PI at Benedict College and Professor of Biology and one of his students, Candice Lawrence, a junior Biology major, who are currently researching immunocytochemical localization of gp91-phox in breast cancer cells exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
When asked about the anticipated outcomes of this research, Raychoudhury responded, “Successful detection of glycoprotein 91-phox, an essential component of the NADPH oxidase, will underscore the presence of the superoxide-generating enzyme in breast cancer cells. This research will assess the influence of environmental pollutant PAHs on the regulation of this protein.”
SC INBRE is helping them to accomplish their goals. Candice was initially supported during the summer of 2024 by the SC INBRE sub-award to Benedict College. During the fall Candice is continuing her research with partial support from South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU).
When not in the lab or classroom, Candice enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoys hobbies such as crocheting, reading, and listening to music.
