Academic Leadership / Career Development Workshop 2018
Welcome Message from the Program Co-Chairs
Dear Workshop Attendant,
On behalf of SC INBRE Steering Committee and SC EPSCoR, we are delighted and honored to welcome you to the 2018 joint SC INBRE and SC EPSCoR Academic Leadership Summer Workshop. One of the goals of the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) and NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 award, MADE in SC, is to increase the research capacity of the state by programmatic expansion and networking of research activities of faculty and students at academic institutions through the state. To achieve this goal, both support the career development of faculty and hands-on research training of students at network institutions. The 2018 workshop program includes sessions on developing a successful NIH and NSF grant application, finding funding opportunities, managing personnel, entrepreneurship and intellectual property, as well as tips on planning for a successful transition through the academic ranks. This workshop will also provide a tremendous opportunity for network building and seeking research collaborators and mentors. Students will be informed about process to develop a successful graduate school application and will learn how to position themselves for success through networking.
We thank our speakers and panelists for sharing their experiences and guiding principles for academic success with the workshop participants. We express our sincere gratitude to Cyndy Buckhaults, Communications Manager for SC INBRE and SC EPSCoR, for her support and leadership for workshop planning and organization. Finally, we thank you for your participation and engagement in stimulating discussion and for networking.
Edie Goldsmith, Martine LaBerge, and Nadim Aziz
